STEPS CLASSES
Walking together requires people to agree on a direction…or
they will find themselves at two different destinations. As a church
family we are committed to walking together. God has given us a clear
direction, and we want to ensure that we walk together, step-by-step,
as we follow Christ. Every member is simply too important to God and us
to get lost or left behind. We believe it is our responsibility to help
every member take the next step in their spiritual journey, and we take
this responsibility seriously. So how does a family, especially our
size, ensure that every member is heading in the same direction? All
new members complete a simple four-step process— our Steps
Class series. These four Steps help every member discover the First
Church family and how they can get involved and connected through
Sunday School, Small Groups and service. There is value in these Steps
for every member, regardless of age, stage in life, or spiritual
maturity!
The STEPS classes meet in room C110 on Sundays.
GREAT EXPECTATIONS CARD
Commitment is at the heart of membership because it is essential for
being a family. In fact, commitment is the difference between being a
member of the First Church family or a person who simply attends. Every
member makes two commitments when joining our church family: a
commitment to Jesus Christ and a commitment to support the First Church
family through prayers, presence, gifts, service and witness. Our Great
Expectations Commitment cards reflect annual commitments of prayers,
presence, gifts, service and witness by each member—
children…students…and adults. Our commitments in
these areas determine how and where First Church will minister in the
coming year. They also have a profound impact on each member because
these commitments enable each member to grow spiritually and become a
better steward. Volunteering is important at First Church. Members are
not recruited to do specific ministries. Ministry happens because
volunteers desire to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives.
So pray for God’s direction, review the Great Expectations
Card. You will be touring this card at Step 3
SUNDAY SCHOOL
Relationships are a necessary part of being a family. There can be no
anonymous family members. A family knows and loves each member. Family
members provide support and encouragement to one another throughout
life. In our family it is essential that all new members build strong
relationships because they are necessary for care and spiritual growth.
However, attendance in one of our worship services alone is not
sufficient to build these necessary relationships. Sunday School
classes and other small groups, provide the perfect environment for
growing spiritually while building lasting friendships. These smaller
groups allow members to interact with the scriptures and each other for
real life change.
