How To Join

You can become a member of First UMC in one of the following ways:

  • Confession of Faith - the initial entrance into membership in the church when you confess Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Click here for more information.

  • Reaffirmation of Faith - renewing your initial confession of faith after a period of inactivity, or not being on a church membership roll.
  • Transfer of Membership - from another United Methodist Church or a Christian church of another denomination. We recognize baptism from all other Christian churches.


    • In each pew (Main Sanctuary) you will find a Friendship Folder, when you sign in on the yellow visitor sheet, check the box labeled, "I want to join." We will contact you with the starting date of our next Steps class. Should you have any questions about joining, contact Connie Mechem.

    We want you to know us better when you join so we have a series of classes designed to help you join us in every way. These are called STEPS Classes. They meet four Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m. in the Coy Hall classroom (C110).

    STEP ONE (first Sunday) – Discovering Your Church Family

    STEP TWO (second Sunday) – Desiring Spiritual Maturity

    STEP THREE (third Sunday) – Determining Your Gifts and Your Ministry

    STEP FOUR (fourth Sunday) – Defining Your Mission

    Come and see what it is all about. We believe that these classes are ESSENTIAL to help you fully join in the life of the church.

    Members of First UMC act as mentors for new members, making sure they get introduced to the many missions and ministries of First UMC, and helping them find a Sunday school class and an area in which to serve.
